Recitals, performances and events:
Participation in recitals, performances and events are optional for those students eligible to participate and will not affect your child’s placement in a class. We feel it is a great motivator and self-esteem builder for our dancers. It teaches that hard work is appreciated and goals are achieved through performing. Every child participating becomes a star at every event.
We have some very strict rules regarding rehearsals and recitals. We ask that you carefully follow our plan in order to help us keep participants properly disciplined and safe. All recital rehearsals are required, not optional for those dancers who are to be in the show.
Art of Dance also reserves the right to decide which students can or can not participate based many factors that include but are not limited to behavior in class, attendance, attitude towards instructors, staff and other students. Students on probation may not be eligible to attend. Please read more about probation and conduct in the student hand book. Performing is a privilege and should be respected.
Art of Dance from time to time may have events, routines or performances that only students invited by instructors and or students in our “A Step Above” dance team.
In addition all monthly tuition must have a “0” balance at the time of any event ; as well as any fees if applicable must be paid in full by their due date.

Specials: Solos/Duos/Trios
Students have the option of a solo, duo or trio for any performance. We prefer that the students be over 7 and have at least 1-2 years of dance training. Solos duos and trios are taught in about 6-8 hours of scheduled lessons over the period of about 2 months. The lessons include learning the material and cleaning the routine. Once the teacher is finished with the routine and it has been cleaned, the lessons are discontinued and the student is expected to continue to rehearse on their own until recital rehearsals begin and they will be scheduled for rehearsals, but not additional classes. The routine must be performance ready. THESE ROUTINES ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT ONCE IT IS TAUGHT. Be sure your child is mature enough to handle this responsibility before committing to a solo/duo or trio. If it becomes necessary for the teacher to conduct extra rehearsals because the student has forgotten their solo, private lesson charges will be applied for the extra rehearsals.
The fee for participation in a solo is $100. The fee for participation in a duo or trio is $50 per participant. An additional costume expense will be necessary for the routine. Solo/duo and trio classes usually take place at the Comeaux center on Saturdays, schedule early because time slots are limited and fill up very fast. Solos/duos/ trios lessons start no earlier than 3 ½ months before a performance but not within one month of a performance.
Parade(s):
Art of Dance usually participates in at least one parade a year. Student participation is optional for those dancers who are eligible to attend. There is a parade fee of $20 – $40 to cover cost of parade entry fees, rental of a flat bed “float” and parade shirts / attire. There are two areas of participation during a parade. We will have “float” riders that is open to all dancers.
Art of Dancer Instructors will invite certain students to march and performer during the parade. “Step Above Dancers” will also be required to participle in this area.
The class mom will need to attend and participate at this event. No other parents or sibling will be allowed to ride or walk in the parade.
Performing students will have one to two scheduled practices that will be mandatory for participation. These extra practices will usually be held at the Comeaux center on Saturdays.
Special Performances and or routines:
Art of Dance from time to time may perform routines at community events and usually have at least one special routine in the end of the year performance (usually the opening). Art of Dancer Instructors will give the option to certain students to take part in these routines. “Step Above Dancers” will also be required to participle in these routines.
Art of Dance may or may not also hold auditions for students to try out for special routines.
To all students who accept the invitation to participate: scheduled practices ARE mandatory for participation. These extra practices will usually be held at the Comeaux center on Saturdays.
There will costume cost for these events and or routines. There may also be additional fees for certain community events
.
A Step Above Dancers:
This is a dance team that may perform special routines at community events as well as Art of Dance events and recitals. However there are certain rules and regulations to become part of the team and to stay in the team.
We will from time to time have open auditions for any student or non student to try out for the team.
Instructors can also invite a student to be on the team or suggest them to try out in a closed audition.
Once a student has been selected through audition or invitation he or she must choose if they want to accept the responsibility of being on the team. If a dancers chooses not to be on the team they still may be eligible to participate at certain events or in certain routines. This option may require you to pay event fees.
The A Step Above dancers will have mandatory practice though out the year. These practices usually will take place on Saturdays at the Comeaux center.
If a student is placed on probation they will not be allowed to perform with the team during the probation period.
Because of the extra practices and cost of events there is a non refundable fee for dance team members. You can choose to pay either $100.00 per year or $12.00 per month. Event fees for community events will be waved for dance team member and certain Art of Dance events fees may be waived or reduced for dance team members.
